It originates from prior to the Partition of India when it was referred to as Ankada Jugar ("figures gambling"). In the 1960s, the technique was changed with other means of making random numbers, like pulling slips from a sizable earthenware pot known as a matka, or managing participating in playing cards. In Satta Matka figures from 0-9 could be
